Have you ever had those moments when you're hungry and lazy on a Friday night? SO lazy you don't even want to speed-dial your favorite Chinese take-out place and wait another 45 minutes till your food gets to you? For those of us who don't have the luxury of living in NYC where you can order and get your food in 5 minutes, try this SIMPLE RECIPE that I randomly concocted.
SANDY'S KIWI KIELBASA SAUSAGE GUAVA JAM EVERYTHING BAGEL RECIPE
- 1/2 of an Everything Bagel
- 4 slices of Cooked Kielbasa Sausage
- 2 slices of Kiwi fruit
- 1 tablespoon of Guava Jam
- 1/2 tablespoon of Butter
- Toast Bagel in oven to desired crispness
- Spread Butter then Guava Jam on top of the Bagel
- Top with slices of Kielbasa Sausage and Kiwi fruit
Sounds easy enough? It's cuz IT IS!! The reason why this bagel tastes SO surprisingly delicious is because of the nice pairing of the savory and sweet ingredients in this dish. The savory components of the Butter, Kielbasa Sausage and Everything Bagel goes extremely well with the sweetness and tartness of the Kiwi fruit and Guava Jam spread. The warm heat of the bagel melts the butter and fruit jam nicely. There is a nice temperature contrast between the cold sausage meat and kiwi and the hot out-of-the-oven bagel and melted butter. The crispness and crunchiness of the bagel pairs well with the soft fruit and chewy sausage texture.
Don't have the above ingredients? Feel free to use other healthier substitutes. if you do not have Kielbasa Sausage laying around; try some Ham, Turkey or Tofu. You can also substitute the bagel with some other bread, such as Whole Wheat Bread, Pita Bread or even a non-carb option like Romaine Lettuce. If you don't have Kiwi fruit, some slices of Pear or Strawberry fruit would also do well. If you prefer a healthier alternative to Butter, try some Avocado spread or Hummus spread.
